Scouting For Food

Boy Scout Troop 164 and Cub Scout Pack 187 recognize that 1 in 5 children do not know where there next meal is going to come from.  The Scouts want to help with the fight against hunger.  The Troop and Pack will be participating in the annual Scouting for Food campaign.  ‘Scouting for Food’ door hangers will be distributed around the local communities on April 1st and food will be collected between 8 am and noon on April 8th.  If you would like to drop off your donation prior to the door to door collections, please bring your donations to Redeemer Church in Hooper.  All of the food donations will be given to the Faith Food Pantry at Immanual Church.

Thank you for all your help with fighting against hunger in our communities.

Do a Good Turn Daily

The Slogan for Boy Scouts is Do a Good Turn Daily.

Some Good Turns are big - saving a life, helping out after floods or other disasters, recycling community trash, working with your patrol on conservation projects.

But Good Turns are often small, thoughtful acts - helping a child cross a busy street, going to the store for an elderly neighbor, cutting back brush that is blocking a sign, doing something special for a brother or sister, welcoming a new student to your school.

A Good Turn is more than simple good manners. It is a special act of kindness.

Taken from the Boy Scout Handbook.

Faith Food Pantry

The Faith Food Pantry is held on a monthly basis in Hooper and serves approximately 100-200 people each month.  The Faith Food Pantry offers help for the families in our local communities.  Our Troop likes to help the Faith Food Pantry by setting up tables, passing out food or carrying out the boxes for the families.  The past couple years with the Scouting for Food, we have collected donated food items to be passed out at the Faith Food Pantry. In 2016, the Troop and Pack collected over 800 items in the annual Scouting for Food campaign to give to the pantry.

Retiring Old Flags

When the United States flag (Old Glory) becomes worn, torn, faded or badly soiled, it is time to replace it with a new flag, and the old flag should be "retired" with all the dignity and respect befitting our nation's flag.  Troop 164 understands that it is hard for people to "retire" the flag appropriately.  To help the community to maintain the proper respect of the flag, there is collection boxes at the Scribner and Hooper Post Office for community members to deposit their flags that are in need of proper "retirement".  The Scouts will collect the flags on a regular basis and give the proper respect to the flag.

Beginning July 4, 2016 The troop began an annual retirement ceremony during the Fourth of July Festival in downtown Hooper, NE.  Come and join us for this solemn ceremony.

Helping Neighbors

In the past weeks, our communities have experienced a variety of different storms, especially the Uehling area.  Our Troop and Pack worked together, along with other community members cleaning up the debris in the farmer's fields, so they are able to replant in the next few weeks.
